It’s a common question for business owners to ask: “Do I really need to use Social Media?”
The short answer is: Yes
The long answer is: If you’re so busy you can hardly take on anymore business, then maybe not (*see small print at end of this article), but otherwise, ABSOLUTELY YES!
Why Should I Use Social Media for My Business?
1. It Gets You Where The People Are
Remember when your math teacher used to insist that you wouldn’t always have a calculator in your pocket?
It’s funny how times change! Today, people don’t just have a calculator with them at all times—they have an entire directory of businesses, that we can call the internet.
Now, between classes and shifts, during commutes and bathroom breaks, billions of people are scrolling on social media, searching for something to catch their eye. Since fresh, attention-grabbing content is valued, platforms like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter) aim to highlight the most recent material.
Every second, future clients are roaming online until they land on something worth digging into. You can either be in their field-of-view or not.
2. It Lets You Humanize Your Business
The shortform “post-by-post” style of social media platforms is a fantastic way to let some personality shine through.
Social media platforms allow you to quickly share images and video of you or your team. This is a fantastic way to show off what you do, how you do it, and (most importantly) that there are people behind the whole thing. An active page says “We’re here, we’re active, and we’re ready to help!”
Not to mention, when you put yourself out there on social media, users are more encouraged to reach out with questions and comments. Which leads perfectly into the final point…
3. It Opens Up A New World Of Public Interaction
If you’ve read our article on social proof, you’ll already know that it’s a lot easier to pull together when you have an active online presence.
With an active social media page, you can better connect with other accounts, tap into trends, and invite clients to engage on a public front. If someone wants to post a picture of the amazing dish they ordered at your restaurant, make sure you’ve got a thriving page that they can tag and link people to!
* Even if you’re not active on social media, you should still set up social media accounts for your business on at least Facebook and Instagram if for no other reason than to stake your territory and prevent fraudsters from pretending to be your business and duping people online.
